Limitations to Chloris

Limitations to the Chloris bibliography. This list may seem long and restricting, but as Chloris grows we hope to eliminate some, if not all.

  1. For mainland Greece, Chloris is heavily dominated by sites in the Peloponnese.
  2. For mainland Greece, the majority of bibliographic entries date later than ca. 1965. In a sense, Chloris updates three previous studies: 1) Ålin, P., 1962, Das Ende der mykenische Fundstätten auf der griechischen Festland,SIMA 1, Lund; 2) Hope Simpson, R. and O.T.P.K. Dickinson, 1979, A gazetteer of Aegean civilization in the Bronze Age, Vol. I:The mainland and islands, SIMA 52, Goteborg; and 3) Hope Simpson, R., 1981, Mycenaean Greece, Noyes Press, Park Ridge, New Jersey. For more material on the sites listed in Chloris, consult these works, particularly for excavations reports earlier than 1965.
  3. All references are for specific sites; Chloris does not cover general survey studies on all aspects of the archaeology of Greece and Crete.
  4. We are currently in the process of adding special characters to the Chloris references, particularly those foreign to the English language (for instance, Greek or the umlaut). Also, at this time, we are unable to provide the proper formatting for book titles (e.g. bold and italics). If you intend to use Chloris for references in publications, please double-check the spelling and formatting.
  5. Chloris contains only a few references to Linear A and Linear B. This material is covered extensively in Nestor.
  6. Chloris does not contain references for the archaeology of the various islands surrounding Greece or the Cyclades. We hope to cover these areas in the near future.
